Car rental in Korca

Korca is the cultural heart of eastern Albania: the new bazaar, a major Orthodox cathedral, and the country’s first art museum. The climate is cooler than the coast — winter snow is common.

Local know-how

What to know before you drive in Korca

Winter: chains required

From December to March, the SH3 (Tirana → Korca) crosses Qafa e Thanës pass at 1,150 m. Snow chains are required after fresh snow — check the forecast before you go.

Border crossings

Tushëmisht (Greek border) is 30 minutes away. Kapshticë (the other Greek crossing) is 45 minutes. Green-card insurance is required.

Fuel toward Pogradec

The road to Pogradec (40 km) has stations, but fill up before Tushëmisht if you’re heading into Greece — Greek prices are higher.

The right car for the trip

We recommend: Sedan

A mid-size sedan with traction control (Skoda Octavia, VW Passat) handles weather changes well. In winter, request M+S winter tyres — not all operators include them by default.

Parking: Free parking along Bulevardi Shën Gjergji. Hotels have private parking.

Frequently asked

Car rental in Korca — FAQ

Will my car cope with Korca winters?
Yes — but ask explicitly for winter tyres when booking December through March. Some operators list M+S tyres as an optional add-on.
How much does a daily rental cost in Korca?
Economy sedan: €25–40/day — cheaper than Tirana because demand is lower.
Can I drive the rental into Greece?
Yes, with the green-card insurance extension. Tell the operator in advance — the surcharge is €10–15/week.
Is Voskopoja worth a visit from Korca?
Absolutely. Voskopoja is 30 minutes by car — its 17th-century Orthodox churches are cultural gems.
