SH22: Boga → Theth
The 28 km from Boga to Theth is part-paved with sharp curves. June–September it’s fine for a sedan. In shoulder season (April, October) a 4x4 is much safer.
Theth is the jewel of the Albanian Alps — the black church, Grunas waterfall, traditional stone houses. Getting there demands planning: the SH22 is paved as far as Boga, then the real challenge starts.

Most rental contracts explicitly forbid the Theth–Valbona mountain pass. The road is unpaved with frequent rockslides. Cross on foot (7–8 hour hike) or by specialised off-road shuttle.
From November to mid-April the village is effectively cut off by snow. Mountain roads close and most guesthouses shut for the season.
Even though the SH22 works for a sedan in peak summer, a 4x4 is the safer call against changeable mountain weather. Confirm in writing that the “Boga–Theth” route is allowed in your contract.
Parking: Free parking near the church and at guesthouses. Don’t leave the car at the cliff edge — rockfalls are routine.
