Fuel: only in Bajram Curri
Between Tropoja and Valbona (40 km) there’s no fuel station. Fill up properly in Bajram Curri before entering the national park.
Valbona sits high in the northern Albanian Alps. Reaching it means combining the Lake Koman ferry (3 hours through a black-mountain fjord) with a vehicle on the far side — one of Europe’s most singular travel days.

The last 28 km from Bajram Curri to Valbona is partly unpaved. A sedan works in summer; a small SUV is much more comfortable.
Fastest route: Tirana → Shkodra → Lake Koman ferry (3h) → Bajram Curri → Valbona. Plan a full day just to reach the valley.
A small SUV (Dacia Duster, Suzuki Vitara) is the right call: enough ground clearance for the unpaved final stretch, with reasonable fuel economy for the long approach.
Parking: Free parking at guesthouses and at the national park entrance. Watch for seasonal road closures.
